Introduction
|
B-Rabbit (ビーラビット, Bī-Rabitto), or the Bloodstained Black Rabbit (
Throughout their journey to uncover Alice's memories, combat the forces of Glen Baskerville, and discover the truth of the Tragedy of Sablier, it is the B-Rabbit and its powers that remain both the center of all the mysteries and the key to all the answers.
The true original B-Rabbit is not Alice, it is Oz.[4] Over one hundred years prior to the story's beginning, Oz born when Lacie Baskerville presented the Core of the Abyss with a pair of identical rabbit dolls, one kept by Lacie and the other by the Core. Following Lacie's death, he became the companion of her twin daughters, Alice and the Intention of the Abyss. Grateful to be given life, Oz sacrifices one of his bodies to convey a fragment of Lacie's emotions as her last message to Jack Vessalius[5]; however this act only gives Jack the motivation to forcibly join the material world and the Abyss.[6] He manipulates the Intention of the Abyss into creating a Chain with the power to destroy the "Chains" making up the world, to which she offers Oz.[7] Thus the B-Rabbit was born.[8]
Despite Contracting Oz and using his powers to sever the "Chains," Jack's attempted worldly destruction failed and resulted in the Tragedy of Sablier. He attempts to gain further power by contacting the Intention of the Abyss, but is stopped by her sister Alice destroying their physical body when she commits suicide.[8] The Intention wished to use the B-Rabbit's powers to destroy her memories of Jack to prevent this from ever happening again. Alice, to protect Oz from having to destroy anything else, takes the B-Rabbit's powers into her own soul, becoming Alice the B-Rabbit.[9] However the Core of the Abyss, not wishing harm to come to the two Alices, interferes, and the Intention's memories were merely torn and scattered through the world while her sister's memories were taken as a substitute. Alice was left with no memories or knowledge of her identity, excluding her name and the misplaced conviction that she was the B-Rabbit.[10] Meanwhile Jack was excluded from a true death and salvation by the Hundred Cycles, now cursed to age circuitously backwards from his age at "death" into an infant then back again indefinitely. After one hundred years Jack's soul within his body burnt out, and all that was left was the slumbering soul of Oz with neither his powers nor memories. He would be raised by the Vessalius Dukedom under the mistaken belief that he was the human Oz Vessalius.[11]
Description[]
The B-Rabbit appears as a gigantic anthropomorphized black rabbit. Its body is entirely humanoid in shape and proportion, with only its most bestial features being the elongated claws on its fingers and its head. Its face is that of a rabbit's, with long erect-standing ears and sharp fangs for teeth. Its eyes are bright red. It wears a long red coat with white edges, white sleeve cuffs, a red-and-white checked chest pattern, and a white collar tied into a bow. It also has on black pants and white laced boots. When it battle it wields a large dark red scythe.
As Alice the B-Rabbit, she appears as an adolescent girl with purple eyes and long dark hair, wearing the long red-and-white coat, a black miniskirt, and white laced boots.
When Oz uses the B-Rabbit's powers, his eyes will glow red.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Transformation - If Alice doesn't or can't transform into the B-Rabbit, such as when her power is sealed by the Raven, she is only as capable as a normal adolescent girl.[12] By transforming into the B-Rabbit's true form, a large, anthropomorphic black rabbit, she can use a wider range of powers.[1]
- Originally manifested as a Chain in order to destroy the "Chains" which distinguish Abyss and the material world,[7] the B-Rabbit is one of, if not the single most destructive Chain to appear in Pandora Hearts.
- The B-Rabbit is one of two known Chain Killers, Chains capable of completely destroying other Chains (the other being Mad Hatter).
- This ability extended to Baskervilles, former humans whose bodies have come to take on the traits of Chains, allowing him to easily kill the normally invulnerable Baskervilles.[13]
- It is able to manifest a large, red scythe which it could manipulate intuitively.[14]
- It is able to turn objects to sand by touching or striking them, though it is unclear if there is any limitations on this ability.[15]
- It is able to summon thick, pointed chains, which could be used as a projectile weapon.[16]
- Like all Chains, the B-Rabbit is invulnerable to most physical attacks.
