Notable Locations[]
Lord Ruthven's Office[]
Lord Ruthven's Office is the workspace belonging to August Ruthven as he operates as a member of the Vampire Senate, the most authoritative figure of the Oriflammes, and one of the most prominent figures in Vampire history. It is a large office space that is circular in shape, the circumference of which is filled with rounded bookshelves filled with books, research material, odd trinkets, and more, all surrounding Ruthven's desk which sits in the center. The ceiling above is colored a deep red like that of the blood moon, with stars and constellations etched into the surface.
Ruthven's office is seen when Noé and Vanitas request an interview with the man in question after the bal masqué was crashed by Charlatan. Noé wishes to corroborate information with Ruthven regarding curse-bearers, hoping to receive help with the duo's shared goal to cure every curse-bearing Vampire they can. However Vanitas knows he will be questioned in return by Ruthven and thus intentionally provokes the man into violently attacking them by besmirching the name of the Vampire Queen. Afterwards Noé and Vanitas are kicked out of Altus entirely and banned from returning to the Castle.
Loki's Room[]
Loki's Room is the room where within resides Loki Oriflamme for him to stay isolated and shackled. Because he is a curse-bearer he is not allowed to roam freely, but he remains high-status due to being an Oriflamme and a Beastia, thus his confined living space reflects that wealth. It is an expansive greenhouse-like area filled with majority nature, sparse furnishing lining the floor and tall windowpanes stretching up to the ceiling.
The Queen's Room[]
The Queen's Room is the current residing place of the Queen of Vampires, Faustina. In recent times the Queen has become something of a recluse, never seen in public with the exact reasons never disclosed, and thus it is within this room that she remains. In truth, the Queen is functionally dead and lays in bed lifelessly as her body steadily becomes a corpse. This fact is a carefully hidden secret that only the highest-ranking of Vampiric society know—until Vanitas correctly deduces this truth and uses it to provoke Lord Ruthven into attacking him.
The Senate Chamber[]
The Senate Chamber is the private forum within which the Vampire Senate meets, argues, and, very rarely, makes actionable decisions. The Senate Chamber has been an established vital location for upper Vampiric society since the times of the War when any semblance of government for Vampires was newly born and disorganized. Since then it has only grown in size, wealth, and importance, though the disorganization has never left. Often the Senators spend their meetings antagonizing one another, making for a tense and difficult political atmosphere, while the current Grand Duke—Luca—can only watch due to being a child.
The chamber is a large and tall room deep within the castle led in by a pair of large double doors. In the center of the room is a circular desk where all Senators are seated, with a small fraction of the desk in the front open to where the Grand Duke's throne sits atop a raised platform. On the floor concentric to the circle formed by the desk is a floor pattern in the shape of a starburst, with two more smaller starbursts diminishing in size as they approach the Grand Duke's throne. Placed on either side of the Grand Duke are a pair of scribes who record every word of every meeting held.

Trivia[]
- "Carbunculus" is a Latin word that translates literally to "small coal" and figuratively to "burning/devouring sorrow." It can also metonymically refer to a kind of red sandstone, any red precious gemstone such as ruby or garnet, or a disease.[1]
- Carbuncle the gemstone is also known to be written within medieval fiction as possessing magical properties.[2] The Old French chanson de geste Le Pèlerinage de Charlemagne[3] sees a fictionalized Charlemagne possessing a bedchamber in a palace at Constantinople that is illuminated entirely with these magical gemstones.
- The interior of Carbunculus Castle is based on the Château de Versailles (Palace of Versailles),[4] including iconic areas such as the Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors)[5] and its cour d'honneur (court of honor).[6]
