The Clan of the Blue Moon (
It is uncertain whether another permutation of the Clan of the Blue Moon—if there have been yet others who were made the Blue Moon's Kin before. But as of yet, that possibility has never been implied, and thus it is assumed that the only Clan of the Blue Moon is the one most central to the story: that of Luna, Vanitas, and Mikhail.
As children, Vanitas and Mikhail were both victims of Vampire attacks and were thus orphaned, afterwards being taken in by the Chasseurs. Moreau would then kidnap them into his laboratory to use as subjects in his experiments. Despite the daily agony they suffered through in that environment, the two began to consider one another brothers. One day it was slated that their suffering would be brought to an end after Moreau revealed the purpose of the experiments on them was to attempt to artificially turn them into the Kin of the Blue Moon and thus allow them access to the two Books of Vanitas, a process which would eventually drive them to complete insanity. Before this could be completed, the Vampire of the Blue Moon themselves destroyed the lab and took their Books back, along with the two children.
Desperate, Vanitas and Mikhail stayed with the Vampire and were taken in as their adoptive children. While Mikhail quickly warmed up to his new guardian, Vanitas remained distrustful, despite taking an active role in supporting all three of them. Despite circumstances, they began to regard one another as family, even Vanitas who went on to give the Vampire a name they finally liked enough to keep, "Luna." But after enough time passed, Vanitas and Mikhail's conditions worsened, their existences teetering dangerously on the edge between human and Vampire due to those experiments, and soon they would die from it. Luna could only offer one last option—to make the children their Kin proper. Mikhail accepted instantly in order to keep his family together, while Vanitas vehemently refused and chose to keep his humanity. However, due to circumstances and reasons that remain as unclear as the event itself, things escalated until Mikhail was believed to have died and Luna was killed by Vanitas after they had Marked him. Thus leaving Vanitas to be, at least as he believed, the last legitimate Kin of the Blue Moon.

History[]
Tracking down an estranged scientist working for the Chasseurs named Moreau, Luna raided his lab - destroying all his research and reclaiming the two Books of Vanitas that had been stolen from them. Prior to leaving however, Luna was approached by two of Moreau's victims, No. 71 and No. 69. Disturbed by the horrific treatment of these children, Luna asked if No. 69 would like to leave with them and No. 71; something which No. 69 begrudgingly accepted.[1]
Luna would bring both No. 69 and No. 71 to be part of the Blue Moon Clan, caring for the two from then on. While No. 71 — who introduced himself as Mikhail — was grateful for what Luna had done for him, No. 69 despised Luna because they were a Vampire - vowing to one day steal their power so that he can destroy all Vampires.
Despite No. 69's initial protest, the three of them seemed to live like family, in what seemed to be happy days, so much so that Mikhail started calling Luna "father", and No. 69 "brother."[2]
By unknown circumstances, No. 69 came to inherit Luna' name, as well as The Book of Vanitas and their blue eyes. He was also Marked by them in an effort to turn him into their kin.[2] At some point after Luna's death, Mikhail was believed to be dead as well. Vanitas then proceeds to pursue revenge against the Blue Moon Vampire, utilizing The Book of Vanitas to treat Vampires afflicted with Malnomen in order to tarnish the reputation of Vanitas of the Blue Moon.[3]

Powers and Abilities[]
As users of the Books of Vanitas, all three members of the Clan of the Blue Moon have similar abilities:
- Manipulation of True Names - Although it's said to originally have been created to curse the vampires of the Crimson Moon, Vanitas primarily uses his Book of Vanitas to cure patients who have been identified as Curse-Bearers. Using The Book of Vanitas, Vanitas is capable of entering a Vampire's subconscious in order to liberate their True Name from the Malnomen generated by Charlatan. Vanitas has successfully done this to Amelia Ruth, Thomas Berneux, an unnamed boy consumed by Prédateur, Chloé d'Apchier, and Jean-Jacques Chastel.
- Temporary Paralysis - The Books of Vanitas can inflict a brief period of paralysis on its victim, as shown when Vanitas temporarily paralyzed Thomas Berneux before he could kill Riche. Mikhail uses this attack on Noé during their first encounter.
- Reality Field Generation - Following his curing of Berneux as a Curse Bearer, Vanitas set about creating a field in which Vampires could not fight - having anticipated that Jeanne would persist in her mission to destroy him and The Book of Vanitas and opting for a more diplomatic solution to the destruction of Paris as Jeanne pursued him. Unfortunately, while generating such a field, Vanitas is incapable of using any further power from The Book of Vanitas.
- Astermite Manipulation - The Books of Vanitas can manipulate the astermite — a mineral used as a power source by a majority devices in the world. Both Vanitas and Mikhail use their Books to control automatons and robots powered by astermite.
