Summary[]
Loki explaining they tried to destroy the queen
Naenia gets a solid body and Chloé approaches her, saying that she can finally. Chloé says that her father told her that nobility must protect their fiefdom's people and the d'Apchiers take pride in doing that. Because of that, no matter what they do to her, she will keep loving those people and could never hate them. However, as she is a jealous woman and Naenia put her hands on Jean-Jacques, defiling his true name, she cannot forgive her for that.
Faustina activating Chloé's malnomen
Noé and Astolfo hear some weird noise. Marco informs Astolfo that there is a high amount of energy used in the castle and that the device was likely activated. Astolfo then stops his fight with Noé and heads towards the castle, with Noé following him. Entering the room with the engine, Noé sees Vanitas getting knocked back, Astolfo fighting an automaton, and Chloé choking Naenia. As Naenia yells, Vanitas says Chloé should stop and not provoke Naenia anymore. Naenia keeps yelling in pain, and black liquid starts pouring out of her, along with her outside starting to crack. Vanitas tells Chloé to release her from her bodily form and not make her remember who she really is, or she won't be able to kill her. Naenia's outer body cracks, releasing light and an aura that is felt by all vampires. Luca wonders what it was, and his brother Loki assures him, and mentions that they tried to destroy her body, but it seems remains of the Queen are still scattered somewhere. Naenia then turns into a young girl with golden-rose hair. Chloé trembles, unable to defy her, and Naenia kisses her. Noé wonders what is Naenia and Vanitas explains that it's Death's Keeper, the malnomen of Queen Faustina, the first vampire of the Crimson Moon. Jean-Jacques returns, but is easily defeated by Naenia. Chloé's Malnomen activates and darkness engulfs Gévaudan, lifting the castle in the air. As the engine stops, Faustina returns to being Naenia, commenting that she needs to keep searching for more names.
Roland comes to help Noé and Vanitas
Vanitas falls out of the castle and Noé jumps after him. A voice then tells him, he won't reach him and will fail, and he should joins them. Noé manages to reach Vanitas and saves him, but wonders who was that. Vanitas explains that Chloé's Malnomen creates a space around her that protects her, and will eventually devour everyone if they don't do something. Noé gets annoyed at Vanitas for not telling him, not only about Chloé, but also about Naenia. Vanitas explains he wasn't sure until now, but Noé insists he should have shared his theory, and Vanitas states that he wouldn't have believed him, as vampires never listen to humans. Noé then stares at Vanitas, telling him that he believes him, which only annoys Vanitas. Strange wolves appear and Noé wonders if he should stay and help Vanitas or head out to help the villagers. In that moment, Roland comes and slays the wolves, happy to see Vanitas and Noé again, while other church members save the villagers. Roland guesses the Beast is involved, but seeing them, it should mean a curse-bearer vampire is also involved and wonders how he can help to get a more peaceful resolution. Vanitas states that Roland must protect the villagers, because if someone dies, they won't be able to save Chloé or her soul. Roland agrees to protect the villagers, but states that if things get worse, he will have to slay the Beast.
Noé and Vanitas head back into the castle. Roland joins Olivier and asks him for a favor and 30 minutes of his time for a refuses mission. Olivier refuses and Roland comments that he too doesn't agree with the order to kill all vampires. As they are not at war with the vampires, it feels like the Church is trying to cover something up. Roland wants to speak with the curse-bearer, making Olivier realizes that Noé and Vanitas are here. The dead wolves then combine into one monster. and Roland orders his squad to protect the villagers, while he and Olivier deal with the monster.
Ruthven stopping Jeanne
Jeanne recalls her past and how she was told she is just a tool. Two vampires, Louise and Éric, find her one day and decide to raise her as their child. One day, her foster family is executed for betraying the vampires. Jeanne is told she must pay for their sins and is made a bourreau, a tool for the Senate. She recalls how she failed to kill Chloé. Soon after that, Naenia had found her and corrupted her name. Jeanne then awakens with Ruthven in front of her, who managed to stop her and tells her to not forget the oath she swore. He puts her to sleep until the war is over, so that she can heal in body and mind. Jeanne decides to be a good tool and wants to kill the Beast this time. Vanitas tells her that Chloé isn't the Beast and that she wasn't directly told to actually kill the Beast, only to stop it. Jeanne states she needs to deal with the situation, but cannot overlook how many the Beast had killed. Additionally, Chloé is a curse-bearer that lost control and needs to be killed too, as it's too late for her. Vanitas tells her she's wrong, it is not too late.
