Summary[]
There was once a vampire know as Vanitas, who was despised by his own kind. Unlike others of his kind who where born on the night of crimson moon, Vanitas was born under blue moon, a sign of ill omen. As they feared him, they drove Vanitas away from the village. As he wandered and faced terrors of darkness, he made a vow to take vengeance upon vampires born under the crimson moon. He created a book imbued with the power to corrupt a vampire's true name.
Amelia holding Murr
On an airship, at the news board a crowd gathers shocked to learn that a vampire had shown up. Noé notices a woman who doesn't feel good. After helping her, his cat comes out of his cage and jumps on the woman. She introduces herself as Amelia wondering what the man's name is, but Noé thought she was asking about the cat and reveals his name is Murr. The announcer reveals that La Baleine will be arriving in Paris shortly, which excites Noé, but he gets disappointed learning he can't yet see Paris. Amelia wonders what he will be doing in Paris and Noé explains he is looking for The Book of Vanitas, which surprises Amelia. He isn't sure if it exists, but his former teacher had send him a letter, informing him that the book had been seen in Paris.
Vanitas warning Noé
Amelie starts to feel more unwell and falls on her knees. As she screams, all the lamps break. Looking at her crimson eyes, Noé realizes she is a vampire. Vanitas comes from the window attacking Amelia, but Noé saves her. Not wanting to give her, Vanitas attacks him. Noé dodges his attacks while holding Amelia, however, having no choice, he tosses Amelia in the air and then punches Vanitas, sending him flying, and then runs with Amelia. As Vanitas gets up, he realizes that Noé is also a vampire.
Amelia wants more blood
Amelia feels colder and colder, she finds herself in a inner world filled with flowers. A shadowy figure asks her if she will give him this place and her true name. A shadow then starts spreading corrupting the world and turning it into darkness. Amelia then bites Noé by the neck and starts drinking his blood. He pushes her away, but feeling warmer, she wants more blood. As black blood starts dripping from her eyes and chest and shadow briars appear, she attacks Noé, who realizes he can't move due to poison from her bite. Vanitas arrives in time and pushes her away. Seeing the black blood and shadow briars, he realizes her malnomen is Englantine, the Prison of Briars. Noé wonders if he is going to kill her, but Vanitas explains he is a doctor who specializes in vampires and is here to cure her. As he takes out a book, Noé recognizes it as the Book of Vanitas. As he uses the book, the shadowy briars starts to disintegrate. As Amelia turns to normal, Vanitas states her true name is Florifel, she who guides spring.
Noé and Vanitas fall from the airship
The airship guards arrive chasing the intruder, Vanitas. Wondering what to do, Vanitas tell them that if they mess with him they will be in a world of pain, but in that moment a small cement block breaks and falls on his head, causing him to lose balance and fall from the airship from a crack in the wall. Noé immediately jumps after him and grabs him. As they fall, he sees the blue moon and recalls a time with his teacher and how Noé tells him that he finds the blue moon beautiful. They end up falling into a building and surviving. Noé asks Vanitas what he did to Amelia and Vanitas explain he used the book to remove the alteration formula, the maladies corrupting her true name. Hearing that Noé gets excited and happy that the book isn't accused like its said in the stories. Vanitas laughs and asks Noé about his name. After Noé introduces himself, Vanitas reveals he is Vanitas and Vanitas of the Blue Moon passed his name and book to him, although he is just a human. Vanitas asks Noé to join him and lend his strength, but Noé refuses, however Vanitas acts as if he accepted. Vanitas reveals that there has been surge of corrupted vampires and if they don't do anything, the vampires will disappear in the future, but he will save them.
As they walk in Paris, Vanitas keeps asking Noé to join him, but he keeps refusing. Noé starts to feel weak, but tells Vanitas they are close to the airship. Vanitas gets annoyed that they returned to it and notices some guards recognizing him as the intruder in the airship, however in that moment Noé loses consciousness and falls to the ground.
