Jun Mochizuki Wiki
This page contains an official policy of the Jun Mochizuki Wiki. Failure to comply with these policies will result in a confrontation by an admin and further violation after warnings may result in a block.

The following are policies and guidelines for images uploaded to Jun Mochizuki Wiki. We recommend that all users read this page entirely. Please note that if you have an image that does not follow these guidelines, it may be uploaded if no high-quality alternative exists.

Before uploading images please read through the PROJECT GALLERY page to know the guidelines on how to name the image according to the rest of the wiki's images. It is not required, but appreciated that you follow the naming scheme detailed in that page. Thank you.

Images may be uploaded via Special:Upload.

General policies[]

The following guidelines are strongly encouraged when uploading images for use in articles for this encyclopedia.

  • When uploading the file, be sure to give it a meaningful name which describes its content.
  • Do not upload any images that violates any of our wiki policies.
  • Do not upload any images that are not official. That means no fanart or edits.
  • Do not upload images that you do not plan to use in an article within 24 hours (1 day) of uploading it.
  • Do not upload images that are irrelevant to the Jun Mochizuki Wiki, unless you specifically follow the rules regarding personal images as listed below.

Image formats[]

  • The following three image formats are used on Jun Mochizuki Wiki:
  • PNG - a lossless format that supports transparency and does not lose quality when generated, preferred for most images.
  • APNG - a lossless format that supports animation, only preferred for small, short animations (such as animated sprites) as MediaWiki support for it is limited. Note that APNGs may not animate in certain web browsers.
  • JPG - a lossy, compressed format, only preferred for photographic material and some types of artwork.
  • JPG images support two file extensions: .jpg and .jpeg. The different extensions have no effect on the image itself and are simply alternate spellings; however, only .jpg should be used for the sake of consistency.
  • GIF - a lossy format that supports animations, only preferred over APNGs or MP4s if the image is a native GIF, as it has a low color-depth.
  • MP4 - a video format, preferred for gameplay clips that cannot convey the information they need to in a single frame, as well as official trailers and commercials. If needed, MP4s can be auto-played within articles by adding the autoplay class (e.g. [[File:Example.mp4|thumb|class=autoplay]]), which will automatically mute, play, and loop the video.
  • Images should be uploaded in the format they were found or created in. Changing image formats either decreases image quality or increases file size without increasing quality.
  • If an image is in a format that is not supported by the wiki, such as BMP or PSD, they can be converted to PNG.
  • If replacing an existing image with a better one in a different format, the image should not be converted to upload over the old image. Instead, it should be uploaded in its original format as a separate file. Afterward, the old file's links on pages should be updated and the old file should be marked for deletion if appropriate.
  • File extensions should always be lowercase (e.g. .png instead of .PNG). This has no effect on the image itself, but should be done for the sake of consistency.

Optimization[]

For smaller images that are displayed at full-size in articles (such as icons), it can be beneficial to optimize the images to reduce filesize. For larger images that go through MediaWiki's thumbnail engine when used on pages, optimization is not needed as the thumbnailer already compresses the images for display.

Optimizations of assets should be lossless, meaning that no data is lost in the reduction of filesize. For losslessly optimizing images, we recommend ImageOptim for Mac users and FileOptimizer for Windows users. Editors are free to use any optimizing tool of choice, but please ensure that the optimizer is lossless.

Artwork[]

Artwork should in most cases be unaltered from how it is found.

  • Images may be cropped to content (without removing the background); however, this should only be done if the image is in a lossless format, such as PNG.
  • Removing the background from artwork to make an unofficial transparency is not acceptable. Doing so will most likely either leave some of the background on the edge of the artwork (which is very noticeable against a contrasting background) or cut off part of the artwork itself, so the background should be left alone.
  • If a background must be removed for use in a specific situation, such as the API or infoboxes, the artwork may be uploaded as a different file, keeping the original, unaltered version intact. The transparent version should have Transparent appended to the original file name, and it should only be used in the specific place it is needed for; the unedited version should be used in all other places. If a transparent image is no longer needed for its original purpose, it should be deleted.

Personal images[]

We understand that users want to have fun while using the wiki, and so we do allow users to upload images that are not relevant to Jun Mochizuki Wiki. We ask that you obey the following guidelines while uploading these images.

  • Once again, do not upload any images that violates any of our wiki policies.
  • Once again, do not upload images that you do not plan to use somewhere (a user page, subpage etc.) within 24 hours (1 day) of uploading them. These will be removed immediately after that time period.
  • The staff of Jun Mochizuki Wiki reserves the right to remove any and all personal images without notice.
  • Any one user should not have more than one personal image. If you would like more, please use an external image host rather than uploading directly to the wiki.
