She is the mysterious ethereal entity responsible for infecting curse-bearing Vampires with Malnomen in a hunt for their True Names.[1] She is a member of Charlatan, who help facilitate her creation of curse-bearers to yet unclear ends.[2] As her goal and very existence is in direct opposition to that of Vanitas and Noé, who fight to cure curse-bearers, she and they remain in constant conflict for the duration of the series.

Trivia[]
- "Naenia" is an alternative form of the Latin word "nēnia" which has three possible translations into English. One, a funeral song or a dirge. Two, a spell, incantation, or enchantment. Three, a song of little consequence, ditty, tune, or lullaby.
- Naenia's true identity as the Malnomen of the Queen of Vampires Faustina is inspired by Faust,[15] a classic German legend in which titular character Faust is a successful man who is dissatisfied with his life, and thus makes a deal with the Devil to exchange his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures.
- Her Japanese voice actress previously provided the voice of Flower Girl from Pandora Hearts.
