The central character is Gilbert Nightray, sitting with his back turned towards the front, looking over his left shoulder. The ends of his coat are in tattered and the cloth is falling apart into black and dark blue feathers. Gilbert's right arm is raised up to rest on his knee, palm open and hovering over his face, right hand gloveless and loosely wrapped in bandages. Gilbert's left arm is braced down by his side, left hand clad in a white glove, and a long chain crisscrosses around his arm, binding it tightly in place. Gilbert is not sitting on the chair but he leans against it, smoking a cigarette as he bows his head down and stares quietly at his left hand, raised up slightly and palm open. The chair he leans on is intricately decorated and high quality in craftsmanship, but is noticeably not for someone his size and clearly was made for someone smaller than him. Hanging off the side of the chair is a long golden chain, which fades into a duller silver as it continues to drop downwards, until it reaches the ground by which the chain is breaking off into pieces. Gilbert's hat is set on the seat of the chair.

Sharon is happily dressing Alice up and doing her hair as the latter sits before her, smiling an indulgent and sisterly smile. Alice is pouting petulantly as this happens but still simply sits and allow Sharon to do as she wishes to her. They both have their hair tied up in matching twin-tail hairstyles, and both are wearing frilly, girly dresses, Alice's having more accessories and decorations. At Alice's feet are strewn-about pieces of candy, a lollipop clutched in her hands, and off to the side is an apple with a bite taken out of it. Behind the two girls to the left among the open jewelry box and purses, is a white rabbit doll with crazed eyes and a twisted smile. Behind them to the right is a three-panel folding mirror, in front of which sits a black rabbit doll.
