Summary[]
Jeanne comes to protect Luca
The Teacher tells Noé that he must never let anyone take his true name as its gives shape to who he is and is basically his very life. As Charlatan is about to take Noé's true name, Vanitas steps in and pushes him away. One of the men tries to attack Luca, but Jeanne comes bursting through the wall stopping him. Luca asks Charlatan what is his goal and what he wants. One of the men refers to Charlatan as Naenia, stating that they have been there for too long and the Queen's Fangs will soon hear about them. Disappointed, Charlatan screams, which calls the curse-bearers. While Noé and the rest deal with them, Charlatan tells Noé that he got interested in him and then escapes through the balcony. Luca and Jeanne jump after Charlatan.
Dominique comes and tells Noé that the hall is full of curse-bearers and those that blacked out are driven mad by the curse-bearers' voices. Vanitas states its the malnomen Dissonance, the Beastly Orchestra, a rare malnomen occurring when those afflicted with maladies gather together. As Vanitas believe he can save them, Dominique decides to protect him until then. As they go saving the curse-bearers, some of the vampires believe its Vanitas that turned the others into curse-bearers and attack him, but Noé protects him.
Catherine killing her mother
Vanitas and Noé find the last curse-bearer, Catherine, a young girl to which Vanitas showed some magic tricks. However, as he sees her, Vanitas states its too late for her as her flesh is already corrupted. Catherine asks them to kill her, before she kills her little sister too. Vanitas pushes Noé aside and proceeds using the book to kill Catherine. Noé questions him why, but Vanitas states that he said it from the beginning that he will do as he please and save the vampires. Recalling how Louis and Catherine asked to be killed, Noé wonders what is a salvation.
Ruthven showing his malicious aura
Veronica, who previously restrained Dominique, shows up and attacks Vanitas and Noé, but they manage to escape to the hall. Even though she wears a mask obscuring her vision, Vanitas is impressed by Veronica's eyes, also known as the Queen's Fangs. She tells him that a mortal shouldn't use her name so lightly and then freezes the ground and Vanitas legs. As the ice starts to cover Vanitas and Veronica laughing that she will shatter him in front of Dominique's eyes, August Ruthven shows up and breaks her mask, telling her to not use such unbecoming display of power. Veronica states that he is late and Ruthven explains that his carriage was attacked and it took him time to find another. Ruthven wonders what happened here and Veronica tells him that Vanitas is from the Clan of the Blue Moon. Soon after he revealed his clan mark, several curse-bearers appeared, and Veronica believes he used the book to spread the curse. Ruthven approaches Vanitas and asks him if this is true and if he killed Catherine and Vanitas confirms that he killed the girl. Ruthven then rises his hand and showcases malicious aura. Noé jumps it between them telling Ruthven to not lay a finger on Vanitas and that they shouldn't blame him for what happened. Noé then realizes he blamed Vanitas for Catherine's death. Ruthven then laughs and apologizes, stating that Noé is correct. He introduces himself, stating that he serves the Queen and is a member of the Senate. Luca enters the hall, seeing his uncle Ruthven, who then melts the ice. Luca wonders what he will do with Noé and Vanitas and Ruthven states he will take them under his wing, telling Veronica that anyone who harms them will be considered as attack on Ruthven and they will suffer the consequences. Noé then starts to loose consciousness, but wants to apologize to Vanitas. He dreams of his teacher, where he explains that he wishes to apologize to Vanitas for pushing his hopes and ideals on him, and as his expectations grew by his own accord, it created feelings of betrayal. The teacher then tells him that he didn't tell him to assess the book to see if its a threat to them, but to meet those whose paths cross the book and experience their stories.
Noé states he will stay by Vanitas side
Noé later wakes up and finds Vanitas at the bell tower. He asks him of what happened after that and Vanitas states that Ruthven diffused the situation and they are now his "guests". Noé wonders why Vanitas is mad and if there is something he wishes to tell him, but Vanitas denies it. Noé asks Vanitas what he meant by saying that he was doing this as an act of vengeance, but Vanitas states it was a lie as he thought no vampire will pay him attention unless he say something like that. Noé doesn't believe it and that he understood why he has a look like he gave up on something. Angry Vanitas draw out his blade, but Noé stops him. Vanitas tells him to not assume things about him and that he doesn't want anything to do with him anymore. Noé states that he doesn't need to listen to him as he doesn't like him and thus has no intention of following his orders or assist him in any way. The bell then rings, causing ringing in their ears and unable to hear each other. As it stops, Noé wishes to know what he means by salvation. Noé tells Vanitas that he is intrigued in him and wishes to see his labors and their outcome. Even if Vanitas refuses to, Noé will do as he pleases and will remain by his side. Vanitas laughs, stating that he doesn't care. Noé then apologizes to Vanitas, but doesn't explain why.
