The Case Study of Vanitas 3 is the third volume of Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas.
Front Cover[]
The central characters are Vanitas and Noé, the both of them lying upside-down from one another on the surface of a pool of water, which is deep blue where Noé is and clear where Vanitas is. Vanitas looks upwards with a smile, the majority of his coat off his shoulders, with his right arm splayed by his side lightly gripping the frame behind. He isn't wearing his gloves, thus the Mark of Possession left on him by the Vampire of the Blue Moon can be seen clear and exposed. The right side of his neck under his collar is stained red with blood, and the left side is stained purple. On his chest lays The Book of Vanitas, the chain colored a deep purple which travels upwards over Vanitas's head to where Noé lies. Noé looks upward as well, expression serious as he grips the chain traveling up and over his left shoulder; it continues down and winds tightly around his left arm. Though Noé is lying right by Vanitas's side in the water with him, he is more significantly framed by the portrait. It is gilded and half-submerged in the pool of water, the upper half still in the air and framing Noé while its lower half disappears below the water's surface underneath Vanitas. It is decorated all over in skulls, though its main decorative skull is cracked and broken, and its sides are covered in overgrown vines. Outlines of gears lay underneath everything.

Humans or Vampires: Who will be the hunter, and who the hunted?

Apple desserts
Noé eats his slice of tarte tatin happily, marveling at how delicious it is between munching on it. Vanitas meanwhile grimaces and gives his own slice over to Noé, muttering about his ability to eat something so sweet. Noé asks if Vanitas doesn't like tarte tatin, to which Vanitas answers that he can't figure why Noé likes this particular dish so much. He starts listing a multitude of other apple desserts similar to tarte tatin: chausson aux pommes, tarte normande, bourdelot, pomme renversé, croustade aux pommes. Noé doesn't recognize any of them, and notes how Vanitas despite not liking sweets is very knowledgable about them. Vanitas remarks that any dish made with apples, sugar, and flour tastes the same no matter what. Jeanne bends her fork in half. Seething in place, she demands that Vanitas apologizes to the ingredients and patissiers immediately. Vanitas, baffled, does so. A small flashback shows that Jeanne finished her slice the fastest in Mémoire 12: Pause, showing how much she loves food, and so she won't tolerate any blasphemy towards it.
Heartwarming girls
After the events of Mémoire 12: Pause, as the music and the dancing continue around them, Dominique clasps Jeanne's hands in her own. She tells her she had fun and offers for the two of them to spend time together again in the future. Jeanne flushes pink, face shining and flooding over with emotion as she agrees. Later on, Jeanne shyly peaks around a corner to greet Dominique, who greets her back. Another time, Jeanne hesitantly approaches Dominique while clinging to Luca for support, and Dominique starts to notice something. Yet another time, Jeanne sidles up to Dominique and offers to see her off as she leaves Altus, Luca smiling behind her and Dominique coming to an epiphany. Dominique realizes that Jeanne has taken a liking to her and clasps her hands, very pleased. Luca smiles brightly himself, having come to the same realization, and watches as Jeanne happily runs up to Dominique to greet her again.
