Bonus Story[]
~Self-Report~
After Doctor Moreau's Laboratory had been destroyed, the Chasseurs are rushing about in the uncollapsed catacombes nearby dealing with the aftermath. Olivier heads the operation with his squad and gives out rapid-fire orders, to inspect for risk of further collapse, to give medical treatment to the injured, to arrange reports to aboveground. Then a subordinate interrupts him to direct him to an odd discovery they made. Olivier follows them and finds the Chasseurs' automatons completely broken, the Astermite powering them ripped out violently despite them not being made for combat. Olivier notes this with concern alongside a report that was made earlier about a closed barrier wall which had been forced open. All of this combined Olivier can only imagine what kind of absurd strength was within the Vampires who had infiltrated them. Behind him a hand taps his shoulder, and Roland with the brightest grin declares that he alone was the one to destroy them. Olivier uppercuts him.
~I Know That~
Ruthven and Noé are sitting in the cafe having their private conversation. Ruthven tells Noé that he looked into his background, making Noé stiffen in surprise. Then he starts listing facts one after another without pause. Noé cannot fall asleep unless he's hugging something, resulting in him incurring Vanitas's wrath after grabbing him in his sleep and using him as a pillow several times. His rough sleeping makes him fall off the bed often to the point where he'll receive complaints from guests staying on the floor below. Even at the age of nineteen most of the clothes he wears are picked out for him by Dominique or his Teacher, though Ruthven hopes he at least knows how to tie his shoelaces by himself. A few days earlier after he had taken a bath he left the floor wet with water which once again angered Vanitas and spurred on another argument between them. Throughout all this Noé has been slowly shaking more and shaking. Ruthven tops it off by recalling a time he got lost in Paris and was led by hand back to Hôtel Chouchou by two human children. Finally defeated, Noé buries his burning face in his hands and begs Ruthven to stop.
~It Makes Me Smile~
When Jeanne and Vanitas are out on their date together. Jeanne stares at her reflection in the window of a store she is passing by, admiring the dress Dominique had chosen for her and marveling at how different she looks wearing it. While thinking of this she smiles happily. Then she vigorously shakes her head and tells herself to pull herself together, reminding of her goal to make Vanitas—who watches her clear inner turmoil with amusement—dance in the palm of her hand. She steels herself and swears that she won't get distracted again. Vanitas points to a nearby location and proposes they go there before running off. Jeanne follows before she passes another store window reflecting her image, and all over again she stops completely taken by her own appearance. Dominique watching them coos at how adorable Jeanne is, shaking from the overwhelming emotion as Jeanne once again steels herself. Dante watching on bored can only wonder what's happening and wish he was home.
~Journey~
On the train ride over from Paris to Gévaudan. Noé recalls the previous night when he asked Vanitas for his blood and caused the human to get coldly angry. Remembering the moment fills him with absolute despair that has him curled in on himself in his seat. His thoughts swarm in his mind with the worst possibilities, that because of that Vanitas could just up and leave and he wouldn't be able to find him again, that if he so chooses Vanitas could disappear and leave Noé without an opportunity to even apologize, and—his forehead is smacked. Noé snaps out of his stupor and stares wide-eyed at Vanitas across from him having flicked his forehead until he came to his senses. Huffing Vanitas tells him to stop spacing out and that they'd have work to do since he was tagging along. Noé touches his forehead with his hand as Vanitas calls him along and reminds him of what they were there for. To find out the truth of the Beast of Gévaudan.
