From the beginning of this story.
"I will save you... without fail!!"
Vanitas and Noé's first meeting in that chapel, the light of the moon shining through the windows and illuminating the both of them in the same shade of blue. Noé stares up quietly at Vanitas who smirks back down at him.
That... was the beginning.
The etching of a quill on paper writing down these memories from beginning to end.
This is... the tale of how I met Vanitas...
Jeanne and Luca when they first met them, Luca with a smile and Jeanne with a quietly calm composure.
...And how we walked together...
Dominique and Louis standing back to back, the former as an adult and the latter as a child, like two opposite ends of a mirror that reflect but don't quite match.
...Of all we gained...
Dante, Johann, and Riche standing together and bickering like family. Amelia holding Murr in her arms with a smile as he plays with Nox, Manet, and Orlok.
...And lost...
Lord Ruthven. Veronica de Sade with Marquis Machina. Olivier, Maria, and Georges all yelling worriedly together. Roland smiling with confidence. Astolfo bedridden and staring out the window. Chloé cradled in the arms of Jean-Jacques.
...And of how...
Gears turn as the world spins forth. The Teacher and Luna, key facets of both their pasts, both shrouded in mystery, both still waiting to be deciphered.

Rain is falling, the first one after a long drought. Mikhail with his face covered in bandages leaves and does not look back. Gears continue turning.
Noé reaches out his hand. The warmth of the sun is at his back and when the clouds clear a gentle blue colors the sky above. Noé smiles down at Vanitas. Vanitas smiles back up at Noé.
He takes his hand.
