Thomas Berneux (トマ・ベルヌー, Toma Berunū) is a minor character from Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas. Known as the Nine-Fold Murderer, he is the one responsible for the series of Vampire incidents raging throughout Paris, the most publicized occurrence of the presence of Vampires since the War. Berneux's contraction of a Malnomen caused him to cyclically break out into fits of lupine rampaging, resulting in the deaths of nine young women in rapid succession. This caught the attention of Vanitas, a doctor specializing in curing curse-bearers, before he had been contacted by Amelia Ruth and had to put his investigation into Berneux on hold.
Appearance[]
Thomas had a wavy gray hair from length to his hindhead. He wore a black waistcoat and a white shirt of long sleeve and white trousers to below his knees and black boots. He had a robust complexion of an adult man.
Personality[]
Not much of his own personality was seen as he was a curse-bearer who wasn't on his own until he was healed by Vanitas, but he died in short.
History[]
Before Vanitas received Amelia Ruth's letter, he was chasing Thomas Berneux, a vampire who had appeared beyond the border and devoured nine people in rapid succession. After La Baleine incident, Vanitas and Noé were invited to Galerie Valentine by Count Parks Orlok, who didn't trust on Vanitas and his book's powers and old him to find Thomas and heal him with The Book of Vanitas before his own eyes so that he could suspend Amelia's execution due to being a curse-bearer. After that, Dante found Thomas and sold the information of his parade to Vanitas. When he and Noé arrived to Thomas' he was attacking Riche, one of Dante's partners who was set by him to trail Thomas. They acted quickly, Noé immobilized him and Vanitas administred a shock on him with his book and paralyzed him temporarily. While he was paralyzed Vanitas and Noé met the Hellfire Witch, Jeanne, who accompanied Luca Oriflamme. They wanted to take The Book of Vanitas from Vanitas and confronted him and Noé, they ran away and Vanitas had an idea. They went back with the Hellfire Witch and Noé and her started fighting and Noé was defeated. Vanitas and the Witch met and introduced himself as someone who belongs to the Clan of the Blue Moon and was going to “reveal his true self“, just to gain time until Thomas Berneux came back to his consciousness and attacked Jeanne, then Vanitas used his inverse operation on him and returned his true name, although he had to do it on Parks Orlok's presence but Nox and Manet were there to see it for themselves . After that, they went after Thomas who was escaping because he killed people and if he was sent to Count Orlok's, he would die. But when they had him, he was killed and vanished.

Loup Garou - Being a curse-bearer, his true name was corrupted and became the Malnomen “Loup Garou, wolf who hunts crimson“. It made his appearance become to one resembling to a werewolf and, as a consequence, increasing his strenght. Loup Garou is also the poison that his fangs left.
